Sek Yuen Restaurant, Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

A friend of mine recommended this place for a dinner yesterday...
She said that this place had been on TV and newspaper before...
I've got no clue.

So she drove us to Jalan Pudu and hunt for this particular restaurant...
Sek Yuen Restaurant.

It's been there for the past 63 years according to the Uncle waiter who been serving us...
It's quite funny, as the whole area are most shoplots only this restaurant stands alone building.

We definitely believe that this restaurant been here old enough as our grandparents ages...
The interiors, the tables, chairs... just brought back the old times memories.

We even thought that the owner of this shop were Hainamese..
But been told that it's Cantonese, well, the shop interior...
Really giving us the Hainam "feel" since my friend's were Hainam and I, myself a quarter Hainam as well.

The dishes we ordered were most been recommended by the Uncle Waiter....
What surprised me was the bowl of rice, we did wonder at first, why there were like extra bowls...
As he did the table settings, he gave us a set of bowl, chopstick and spoon before we order, after that he brought another small bowl for soup...
We asked, should the first bowl to be return, he said,"No, it's for rice..."
After we saw the rice, the we understand.

It's similar with the way the Thai Restaurant served. However, for this portion, it's enough to share with 2. But for the big eaters like us, total rice we ordered were 5 for 4 of us.

We ordered a stir fried lettuce as our vegetable dish...
Nothing particular special over this though, just like those we can get in any restaurant.

We asked for recommendation as I've mentioned...
Uncle recommended us to have their so called "In-House Specialty"...

For a duck meat lover myself...
I don't really fond with the meat...
It's been over-fried (as how they reheat)...
The meat was dried and bit stiff too.

But one thing that makes it least taste better was the sauce...

Lemon/Plum Sauce

It's sort of sourish lemonade plum taste...
The duck meat goes better with this magic recipe.

As usual...
We egg lovers will always have EGG on the table...
We ordered the fried omelet...
Something different.

It's mixed with char siew, onions and mushroom...
Sometimes, normal ingredients to make an omelet should be just fine, if you know what I meant.

The best thing on the table for that night...
Uncle recommended us to have sweet and sour pork...
He bragged that a lot of people will come back for this particular dish...
Whether young or old, they just loves it.

We ordered 2nd plate after we finished the first...
The sourish and sweetness were just nice to indulge...
So goes to the meat, crunchy too.

We ordered 2 types of soup...
Which were the "tang tong" @ slow boiled style...
However, the taste were just not there.

For watercress soup, it still need more time to bring out the fragrance of the soup... Was quite dissapointed with it as old people should know how to boil a soup, don't they?

We had another soup, the pork stomach with pepper... ...just need more time.

Basically... It's a good experience to dine into this restaurant...
Memories were there...
For food wise, I guess... needs to explore some other dishes?

When comes to bill...
I grabbed it to check...
But... it's just stated.........

Simple as that!

Price Range: Not sure individual pricing though....
Good For: Suitable to bring old people there to have a sit, chat, spend some time and look around...
Bad For: To have a good dinner which worth the money, I don't think it's here.
